This page is written for product managers at agencies and DMCs, tour organisers and coach operators — anyone putting together a day programme and looking for somewhere for the group to eat. Below are four modules in which the salaš (a traditional Vojvodina farmstead) serves as the meal stop: the order of the steps, the driving times we know reliably, what the group sees and what it eats. The times are indicative; we confirm them for each specific date and each group separately. The reason is practical: all the food is prepared immediately before the guests arrive, so that it is served hot and fresh, which is why we agree the exact arrival time and the menu in advance. The salaš does not operate as a conventional restaurant — we do not take guests who have not booked; we work only with groups booked in advance, of at least 20 people, arranged at least one day before arrival. Feel free to adapt the modules: if you need a different meal, a different running order or one more location on the same day, send us an outline of the programme and we will let you know what we can fit in.
Group programmes: four ready-made modules for your itinerary

Common to all four modules
The logistics are the same in every programme, so we set them out in one place — they are not repeated in the modules.
The salaš was built in 1965; it once stood beside the Sava, and was moved because of the construction of an industrial complex. It is run by the Jovanović family — “Isailovi” is the family nickname, after an ancestor called Isailo, a priest from Greece who was given a parish in Sremska Mitrovica. A group therefore does not arrive at a roadside catering establishment, but at a family salaš still run today by the same family.
Over the past five years we have hosted more than 50 tourist groups. We deal with drivers and guides directly, we know the arrival time in advance, and the meal is ready when the coach pulls in.
- Capacity: 80 seats indoors; optimally 120 guests when the outdoor area is used as well.
- Length of stay: 2–3 hours allowed for — the meal, drinks, a look around the salaš and the gift shop.
- Minimum group: 20 people. Booked at least one day before arrival.
- Access: 5 minutes from the Sremska Mitrovica exit of the E70 motorway (Zagreb–Belgrade); the salaš is 5 km from the town centre.
- Driving: salaš → Belgrade about 50 minutes, salaš → Novi Sad about 55 minutes.
- The access road is partly asphalt and partly makadam (crushed stone). There is enough room in front of the salaš for a coach to turn.
- Parking: space for two coaches at the same time, and for around 30–40 cars.
- Toilets: 4 in total — 2 men’s and 2 women’s.
- A stage (for music or a performance) and a projector are available.
- Three rooms for overnight stays, on request and subject to availability.
- Languages: we handle English directly, and German with a translator when needed. Arrangements are made by email, and on site with the driver or the guide.
- Guest ratings: Google 4.7 (453 reviews), Booking.com 9.4.
- The driver and the guide do not pay for their meal; the toilets are free of charge.
- Gift shop: home-made produce, magnets and small gifts.
Module 1 — the E70 corridor: a meal between the border and Belgrade
A transit day on the E70 corridor. The group crosses the border, eats at the salaš and reaches Belgrade the same day — with a short turn off the corridor, 5 minutes from the Sremska Mitrovica exit, and no last-minute hunt for somewhere to eat.
What the group sees: a family salaš in the fields of Srem, the brick oven in which prasence (suckling pig) is roasted, and the yard with an outdoor area where food is also served when the weather allows.
What the group eats: a traditional Srem lunch suits a transit day best — home-made noodle soup, boiled meat and vegetables, štrudla (strudel). The menu is agreed in advance, so the group does not order at the table. If the meal should also introduce the group to Srem, a mezetluk is added — a spread of home-cured meats and dairy products from local producers, prepared in the traditional way.
- Border crossing at Batrovci.
- Batrovci → the salaš: 30–45 minutes, depending on traffic.
- The Sremska Mitrovica exit off the E70 → the salaš: 5 minutes.
- Lunch at the salaš; the food is prepared immediately before the group arrives.
- Salaš → Belgrade: about 50 minutes.
- Time at the salaš: 2–3 hours.
Module 2 — the Roman Emperors Route: Sirmium and a traditional Srem lunch
Cultural groups following the Roman heritage already come to Sremska Mitrovica: the town is ancient Sirmium, one of the four capitals of the Roman Empire and the birthplace of several Roman emperors, and it lies on the official cultural route “The Roman Emperors Route” (Itinerarium Romanum Serbiae). The salaš is 5 km from the town centre, so lunch in a programme of this kind need not be an incidental break: it is the Vojvodina part of a day devoted to Roman heritage.
What the group sees: the Roman heritage in the town in the morning, and then the salaš — a Vojvodina homestead dating from 1965, with a brick oven and a yard. The programme thus has both imperial Sirmium and a Srem salaš in the same day.
What the group eats: pečeno prasence (roast suckling pig) from the brick oven, with crisp crackling, or a traditional Srem lunch (noodle soup, boiled meat and vegetables, štrudla). For dessert: baklava with poppy seed, sour cherries or walnuts; štrudla with poppy seed, walnuts or carob; krofne (doughnuts) with jam. We do our best to have everything prepared or picked at the salaš.
- Morning: a tour of the Roman heritage of Sirmium in Sremska Mitrovica.
- Town → the salaš: 5 km, a short transfer.
- Lunch at the salaš: prasence from the brick oven or a traditional Srem lunch.
- Onward for the rest of the day: Belgrade about 50 minutes, Novi Sad about 55 minutes.
- If the meal is accompanied by music or a folklore performance, a stage is available.
- Time at the salaš: 2–3 hours.
Module 3 — a half-day excursion from Belgrade
A programme for groups based in Belgrade looking for a half-day out of the city with a full meal and without long drives. It is about 50 minutes from Belgrade to the salaš, and the salaš is 5 km from the centre of Sremska Mitrovica, so a tour of the town and a meal at the salaš can both fit into the same half-day programme. We agree the time of the meal and the menu in advance.
What the group sees: the Roman layer of the town, and immediately afterwards a Srem homestead dating from 1965 — the brick oven in which prasence is roasted and the yard with an outdoor area where food is also served when the weather allows. We do our best to have everything prepared or picked at the salaš.
What the group eats: a farmstead barbecue over charcoal, “svašta pod sačem” (all sorts under the sač, the bell-shaped lid used for baking under embers) — veal, beef, rabbit — or farmstead beef paprikaš (paprika stew), mildly hot, with home-made broad noodles. For groups with children the menu can include breaded chicken breast with farmstead potatoes and sauce. Desserts: knedle sa šljivama i šufnudlama (plum dumplings with šufnudle, sweet potato-dough rolls; in season with apricot as well), baklava, štrudla, krofne.
- Departure from Belgrade; about 50 minutes to the salaš.
- A tour of the Roman heritage in Sremska Mitrovica.
- The salaš is 5 km from the town centre.
- Lunch at the salaš, from a menu agreed in advance.
- Return to Belgrade: about 50 minutes.
- Time at the salaš: 2–3 hours.
Module 4 — Srem and Fruška gora: the salaš as the meal stop
A regional route in which you choose the locations and slot the salaš in for the meal — in the middle of the day or at the end of the route. The advantage is that the salaš is 5 minutes from the E70 exit, about 55 minutes from Novi Sad and about 50 minutes from Belgrade, so it attaches easily to a day that starts or finishes in either of the two cities.
We do not quote driving times to individual locations on Fruška gora here, because we do not have them confirmed; we confirm them once we have put a specific route together with you. The same applies to the time of the meal: tell us what time the group needs to eat and we will confirm whether we can accept that slot.
What the group sees and eats: the programme can open with mezetluk and continue with pečeno prasence from the brick oven — sometimes smoked as well — or with dishes cooked under the sač. A stage and a projector are available if the programme includes music or a short presentation, and three rooms for overnight stays are possible on request, subject to availability.
- A route through Srem and over Fruška gora, with locations of your choosing.
- The salaš as the meal break in the middle of the day or at the end of the route; we confirm the exact time of the meal in advance.
- Access: 5 minutes from the E70 exit; Novi Sad about 55 minutes, Belgrade about 50 minutes.
- Available: a stage and a projector.
- Overnight stays: three rooms, on request.
- Time at the salaš: 2–3 hours.
How to fit the salaš into your programme
The procedure is short: we need only three things — the number of people, the date and the time of the meal. On that basis we send a price list and a suggested menu, and then we fix the arrival time together. As the date approaches we deal directly with the driver or the guide, so the coach does not have to go looking for anyone, and the food is ready when it arrives.
If you are building a product and need copy for a brochure or a tour programme, write and tell us which module you are using and how much space you have — we will send a description of the appropriate length, in Serbian or in English. Please tell us immediately about any change in the number of guests or in the menu, because purchasing and preparation are planned around that number.
- Send us: the number of people, the date, the time of the meal and the module you are interested in.
- You receive: a price list, a suggested menu and a confirmed arrival time.
- Conditions: at least 20 people, arranged at least one day in advance.
- Ask about the stage, the projector and overnight rooms in the same message — we reply by email.
