The History of the Salaš

Salaš “Isailovi” — a traditional Vojvodina farmstead — stands just outside Sremska Mitrovica, only 5 km from the town centre, and was built in 1965. The salaš existed before 1965 as well, on the bank of the river Sava, but it had to be moved from that site when an industrial complex was built there.

Why Isailovi? You will not often come across this surname, but in our case it is the nickname of the Jovanović family. In the archives of Srem and in the church records we managed to find traces of our ancestor Isailo, a priest from Greece who was given a parish to serve in Sremska Mitrovica. After some time he left the monastic life and married a local woman from Srem. It is from great-great-great-grandfather Isailo that the line of the Jovanović family, better known as the Isailovi, begins.

General information

Every kind of visit has to be arranged in advance. The salaš is NOT a restaurant and does not work the way a restaurant does. We receive guests strictly by prior arrangement, or on notice given at least one day ahead. The minimum group size is 20 people.

In this way we preserve what makes the salaš special: an authentic atmosphere, privacy and seclusion from the bustle of the town.

Capacity

80 seats for guests indoors, and comfortably 120 guests together with the outdoor area

Dance floor

Plenty of room for guests to dance, or for a stage to be set up

Projector

We have a projector available on request, for our guests and whatever they have in mind

Parking

Parking is provided for all guests in front of the salaš
